Certificate Overview

The Coastline Community College Retail Management Certificate, created in conjunction with the Western Association of Food Chains (WAFC), is a specially recognized program designed to prepare individuals for the fast-paced retail industry. This program is also intended to help students develop an understanding of the retail manager’s job and the requirements for success in the retail environment.  The purpose of the Retail Management program is to provide students a solid foundation in the business aspects of operating a retail business. Retail is a growing, fast-paced, and diverse industry with many opportunities for advancement.

Careers are available in all areas of retail business and with over 42 million people employed, and responsible for 1 in 4 jobs in the United States. The Retail Management Certificate is designed to prepare students for career opportunities and upward mobility in the retail industry. It is endorsed by the Western Association of Food Chains and Food Marketing Institute, and is relevant in any retail sector as its course content and learning outcomes mirror those advocated by the National Retail Federation.

Coastline Community College offers an eight-course Retail Management Certificate that can be completed within two years while working full or part-time. All courses are college-level and apply to more advanced educational programs such as an Associates degree in Retail Management, Business, Business Management, or a bachelors degree in Retail Management or Business. Courses are available online (state-wide and nationally) or hybrid (partially on-line/in-class) as well as on-site.  Employer based face-to-face courses can be offered where there is sufficient student interest.
